Congratulations and all the best to Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School seniors upon their graduation on Sunday. Those graduating from Aquinnah include Elsie Fantasia, daughter of Edward and Fawn Vanderhoop Fantasia, who will be studying at Mount Ida College in September; Molly Fischer, daughter of Albert and Linda Fischer, who will be studying at Ithaca College in September; and Evan Hall, son of Saskia Vanderhoop and Norman Hall, who will be studying at Berklee College of Music.

Martha’s Vineyard schools will be in session for the next two weeks. Please be sure your children have their VTA student passes for the year which may be purchased at the administrative offices of their respective schools.

State Rep. Tim Madden will be speaking at the next meeting of the Martha’s Vineyard Democrats on Saturday, June 11, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the Howes House in West Tisbury across from Alley‘s Store. All are invited to attend.

Reminder — the Seniors’ Prom will be held at the Oak Bluffs Senior Center on Saturday, June 11 from 6 to 9 p.m. Dance the night away for those 55 and up. Light refreshments will be served including punch. Tickets are $7.50 in advance and $10 at the door. Please call Rose at the Oak Bluffs Senior Center for reservations at 508-693-4509.

The grand opening of 7A Foods is scheduled for Wednesday, June 15. Chef Dan Sauer and his wife, Wenonah Madison, who have been working around the clock, will open in the former Back Alley’s in the center of West Tisbury. Breakfast and luncheon dishes will be available, as well as beverages and other items to take out. They will still be at the Farmer’s Market on Saturdays with their organic 7A vegetables throughout the summer.

The Aquinnah Power Cruise will be held on Saturday, June 18, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Aquinnah Circle. The Boston Area Roadsters will once again display their antique and custom automobiles for the Vineyard to view. Admission is free. The VTA busses will drop you off with pick-up every hour at Aquinnah Circle. Those Vineyarders with special interests, antique, classic, custom and hotrods, are all invited to participate in the display. There will also be a radio-controlled car race with a prize for the top eliminator.

Martha’s Vineyard Center for Living board members and valued volunteers will be on hand at the Harborfest in Oak Bluffs on Saturday, June 18, from 10 a.m. throughout the day. They will be selling chances for the raffle which will be drawn over the summer. Chances may be purchased for a plane ride around the Vineyard by David Stein, a watercolor painting by Joseph Palermo, two autographed cookbooks by Catherine Walthers and Alison Shaw, a pair of wampum earrings by Joan LeLacheur, and a fancy fabric purse by Sylvie Farrington.

Mark your calendars for the second annual Summer Welcome dinner sponsored by the center for living on Friday, June 24 at 6 p.m. at the P.A. Club on Vineyard avenue in Oak Bluffs. Tickets are $15 each and may be purchased by calling the center director Leslie Clapp at 508-939-9440. There will be a silent auction, music for your dancing pleasure, door prizes, a delicious dinner with a medley of Italian entrees, side dishes, salads and desserts.

The Community Baptist Church of Gay Head and First Baptist Church in Vineyard Haven voted on Sunday, April 17, to call Rev. Ellen P. Tatreau as their covenant pastor for a period of three years (each congregation voted independently). Reverend Tatreau accepted the call and immediately began her ministry on Martha’s Vineyard. On Sunday, July 17 at 3 p.m. Reverend Tatreau will be installed as the pastor of both churches at a service at the First Baptist Church on Spring street in Vineyard Haven. Sincerest condolences to the Carroll family and friends of Thomas Carroll, who died at the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital. He enjoyed his retirement and being home on Martha’s Vineyard surrounded by his family and friends.

Katy Ketchum has arrived for the summer season to work once again at the Chilmark Store. Katy has just completed her sophomore year studies at Connecticut College and has been visiting her grandparents, John and Ellie Ketchum at Pancake Hollow.

Corinna Majno and her husband, Ken Kaufman, have enjoyed a recent visit to the Majno family home atop Echo Hill.

All the best to Matthew Scott, son of Frank and Linda Garvin Scott, upon his graduation from Dartmouth College on June 12.

Congratulations to Samuel Scott, son of Frank and Linda Garvin Scott, on being named a student athlete for the second year at Nichols College where he has just completed his sophomore year. Sam received this honor for maintaining greater than a 3.0 GPA. He is also a member of the varsity golf team. Sam has been on the Dean’s List for his freshman and sophomore years, majoring in marketing with a minor in management. He is the grandson of Lillian Garvin of Oak Bluffs and Emily Scott of Vineyard Haven.

Over South Antiques is open in Menemsha with Jane Slater at the helm and in her 37th year of business.

Speaking of antiques, longtime antique dealer Joseph Spinelli and John McKinstry have arrived for the season from their winter home.

Happy 17th anniversary wishes to Edwin and Patricia Paiva Vanderhoop as they celebrate on June 11.

Happy birthday wishes this week to Ted Cammann on June 12 as he shares the day with Jennifer Randolph. Raise the flag on Flag Day to celebrate the birthdays of Elmer Vanderhoop, Mike Mayrand, Cheryl Sellitti and Madeline Fisher. Sylvia Lima Capelli will party on June 15 and shares the day with Kristina Ann Kestenbaum Leslie.

A very special happy birthday wish to my incredible grandson, Noah James Manning, who will be five years old on June 16 and is anxiously awaiting his Justin Bieber rock-and-roll birthday party. Noah shares the day with Amy Lilavois and Lisa Lane.

Tabitha Rose Emerald will party on June 17 and shares the day with Flip Scipio, Greg Borchow, and Nancy Leport, who will observe a major milestone.
