On Saturday, June 18 from noon to 5 p.m., the 20th annual Oak Bluffs Harborfest motors into town. Each year seems to surpass the previous one in terms of attendance and vendors participating. This year, in fact, faeries have gotten wind of the party and are expected to attend. More on that later.

Over 40 vendors ranging from local artists and craftsmen to antique dealers and nonprofit organizations are on board. There will also be food and music throughout the day. The lineup includes the Beetlebung steel band from noon to 2 p.m., Phil daRosa from 2 to 3 p.m. and Johnny Hoy and the Bluefish bringing the festival to a close. The musicians perform on the deck at Nancy’s Snack Bar.

And now about those faeries. This year the Midsummer Faerie Festival, sponsored by Faerie Magazine, mind you, is taking part in Harborfest. The festival includes mystical storytelling, Celtic musicians and a host of faerie guests including Frenchy and the Punk (formerly The Gyspy Nomads), Judika Iles, author of Encyclopedia of Spirits, Imakhu, the Renegade Wise Woman; the list goes on.

At the end of the day the Harborfest faithful and the faeries will team up with a renegade band of antique car enthusiasts, parade up Circuit avenue, and then all of them will magically disappear in one big poof, taking many small children and pets along with them. Just kidding. About the kids and pets, that is. Everything else is true.

Later, everyone will reappear at the Solstice Celebration, also taking place in Oak Bluffs on Circuit avenue this Saturday night.

The solstice celebration is from 5 to 11 p.m. with fireworks starting at 9:15 p.m. All cars are asked to be off the street by 4 p.m. as this is a pedestrian-friendly festival with dining and music taking over Circuit avenue.
