The Martha’s Vineyard Center for Living will have a table at Harborfest tomorrow in Oak Bluffs. Please stop by our table and learn about our mission and goals. You also may take a chance on items to be raffled at summer’s end: A watercolor painting by Joseph Palermo, autographed cook books by Cathy Walthers and Alison Shaw, a fancy floral purse by Sylvie Farrington, wampum earrings by Joan LeLacheur, and a flight around the Vineyard by David Stein.
The Aquinnah Power Cruise will be held at Aquinnah Circle on Saturday, June 18 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Power Cruise has been the destination for an annual “meet and greet” of car buffs, motor and gear heads from all of the East Coast and the Vineyard. The feature attraction is the Boston Area Roadsters, one of the oldest car clubs in the country. Aquinnah is the final stop for their “poker run.” The Power Cruise will feature a 1/10th scale “drag strip” track set up to race RC (radio-controlled) miniature cars and trucks. In appreciation for the town’s hospitality, each year the Boston Area Roadsters Club generously donates to a local cause — beneficiaries have included the Aquinnah firefighters, Tri-Town Ambulance, Angel Flight and Aquinnah summer youth programs. In 2010, checks were issued to the Friends of Aquinnah Public Library to support its youth programs. Suggestions are welcome for donations. For more information, call cruisemaster Carl Widdiss at 508-645-9528.
The Martha’s Vineyard Youth Leadership Initiative’s youth leadership summit for sustainable development will be held at the Captain Flanders House on North Road in Chilmark from June 18 to 24. Transportation will be provided, please check it out online at mvyli.org.
Vineyard author, storyteller and memoirist specialist Susan Klein will have a reunion of her Spice of Life memoir writing class on Wednesday, June 22 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Tisbury Senior Center — a potluck snack time for her 110 writers. Iced and hot coffee and tea will be provided. Please bring one of your writings with you for all to enjoy.
Rep. Timothy Madden visited Aquinnah this past Thursday. His visit included a tour of the lighthouse at Aquinnah Circle, the Aquinnah Cultural Center, and a visit to the former property of June Noble on State Road that is now an affordable housing lot.
