Strawberry Festival Season Upon Us
Strawberry season is upon us. Sure, just biting into a strawberry this time of year is guaranteed to make you gasp with pleasure and marvel that Mother Nature could be so generous.
But we are people, darn it, and although so often we tend to desecrate Mother Nature, sometimes we get it right and bump big momma up a notch. That’s what the good people at the West Tisbury Congregational Church have been doing for the past 23 years at their annual Strawberry Festival.
It’s a strawberry smorgasbord on the church grounds. The star player is the strawberry shortcake made by hand by church ladies whose hands must have been blessed by God. Toss on some ice cream and homemade whipped cream, God’s blessing again, and well, it’s straight to heaven without leaving the ground. Strawberry preserves, culled whole strawberries, smoothies and lemonade are also available.
The festival runs from noon to 4 p.m. but be advised the word is out. Last year over 1,000 people basked in pure strawberry delight.
And for those who can’t make it up-Island on Saturday stop by Morning Glory Farm in Edgartown, the new kid on the block, concerning strawberry festivals. The farm’s festival runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
