Welcome Nonna! John Doyle of White Plains and West Tisbury very kindly drove my mom, Iole Gardella, to the Island yesterday, on his birthday, no less. Amber Willoughby wasted no time getting over to visit with Nonna. Meanwhile, Paul and Marge Hows said goodbye to their granddaughter, Bridget Slomka, from Goodyear, Ariz., yesterday and are preparing to welcome daughter, Julia, son in law Javier, and grandkids, Aidan and Olivia, today.

Bill and Jan Stokes are here and have so many people coming and going I can’t keep track. Same with Jim and Trude Hart. Mareda Gaither-Graves has returned to prepare for the Performer’s Workshop, and I shall keep you posted of her concert events.

Wow! What a start to the season.

As a graduate of Lesley University, unfortunately I will not have a chance to attend, but there will be an alumni reception at the Tea House at the Inns of Menemsha on Thursday, July 14, from 5 to 7 p.m. You may go and bring a guest; please respond by July 8 to Pattyanne Lyons at 617-349-8178 or plyons4@lesley.edu.

Besides buying your lobster rolls at the American Legion hall on Tuesdays, the popular Grace Church rolls will have a one-day-only change of time on Friday, July 8. The church will be serving from 1 to 5 p.m. on that Friday only, so as not to coincide with our annual street fair.

The Martha’s Vineyard Museum is a great place to take yourself, your kids and your visitors. It is open Mondays through Saturdays at 59 School street, Edgartown. Be sure to see the museum’s float in the Fourth of July parade. Another special presentation takes place tomorrow at the Federated Church at 5:30 p.m. Jaws: Memories from Martha’s Vineyard, will be a talk by Joe Alves, production designer for the movie. Other participants will speak. Visit mvmuseum.org or call 627-4441 for more information.

The Shaw Cramer Gallery at 56 Main street in our town offers a talk by famed artist Rose Abrahamson tomorrow night at 6 p.m., along with an incredible display of her work. I’ll see you there.

Who knew that when Peter and Ronni Simon were married in 1977 in Aquinnah, Ram Dass presided at the ceremony? The Simon Gallery is kicking off its July season with a special reception on Sunday, July 3, at 5 p.m. Ram Dass will be there via Skype at 7 p.m. His coauthor of Be Love Now, Rameshwar Das, will be signing books from 5 to 7 p.m. I’ll see you there.

I will also see you at the street fair next Friday night.

Anniversary bouquets go out to Joe and Joan Didato today. July 3 is for Doug and Leslie Hewson. July 4 honors Tim and Tootie Kieffer. And bouquets to Peter and Ronni Simon on July 7.

The birthday bandwagon pulls along Mya Rendall, Cynthia Schilling, Jenev Schilling and Dick Clark today. Tomorrow is a party for John Clark Wallace, Jean Dowling, Penelope Bonelli and John Scott. July 3 is claimed by Christine Geddis, Larry Gomez, and Hans Buder. The Fourth of July is special for Cora Medeiros, Steve McCarthy, Derek Araujo and Steve Nichols. July 5 belongs to Michael McCluskey and Pat Murphy. July 6 shines on Carol Fleming, Kerry Sertl and Selma Balbino. And on July 7, Kyle Natichioni, Peggy Jewett, Julie Fisher and Cathy Burdick take the cake. Many happy returns.
