Dancefloor Fireworks Just as Hot
“There have to be music festivals and someone has to do [organize] it. And I guess it has to be me.”
So says Rob Myers, also known as Deejay Jellybone Rivers, talking about his compulsion to provide the rest of us couch potatoes with a reason to get out of the house and get in the groove.
This Saturday, July 2, Mr. Myers and friends are throwing their first Free Fest. It’s an outdoor music festival taking place at Waban Park in Oak Bluffs. The day gets going at 4 p.m. and runs until 8 p.m.
Waban Park is traditionally a rather quiet, but large, park better known for kite flying, dog walking, reading and hitting the occasional seven iron; we did say it was big. On Saturday, though, the waterfront location perched in front of Inkwell Beach looks back in time to when its neighbor the Seaview Hotel used to kick it Burning Man style.
Willy Mason will be there. So will the Swamp Angels, Loogies, Taxidermists, Nina Violet, Marciana Jones, artisans of all stripes, colors, claws and paws, plus, most importantly, you too. There are no excuses.
This Saturday You Are Free!
