Please Adopt Us

This week the Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard would like to feature our older cats who have been at the shelter for a long time and really need homes. Everyone wants to adopt kittens, but for older people, kittens are not always the answer. Adult cats are already litter-box trained, they are happy to find a nice comfy lap to sit in, they don’t get a big charge out of shredding curtains and they adapt well to being inside cats. So this is a plea to our older citizens to stop by the shelter and just look at our older cats — hold them in your arms and let them sit on your lap — we have nice chairs in the cat room where you can watch. Some of the older cats are: Misty, Binx, Socks, Fisher, Annabelle and Ceilia, who are all black or black and white cats; Chloe, who is brindle and black; Butter, who is brindle and white, and Rascal, our one tabby.

We also have two adorable kittens: Russell is black and Martina is a tortoiseshell. Both are eight weeks old and have had their first shots (rabies shots will be given when the kittens are a little older.)

We have two very nice dogs. Missy is a year-old purebred pit bull who loves children, people and is very obedient and know her commands well. She is a handsome red and white spayed female. Roxy is a four-year old boxweiler (boxer and rottweiler mix). He is a neutered male and gets along well with other dogs and children. He is quite interested in cats so it would probably be best if he went to a home without felines.

Shelter hours are Wednesdays 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The shelter is closed Sunday through Tuesday. The telephone number is 508-627-8662.
