Please Adopt Us
A bit about us: The Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard was established in 2009 when the MSPCA decided to close, which would have left the Island with no place to take abandoned or unwanted pets. Located on Pennywise Path off the Edgartown-Vineyard Haven Road behind the Vineyard Veterinary Clinic, the shelter takes in dogs, cats, rabbits and guinea pigs that are all looking for new homes. All animals are checked by a veterinarian and given shots if needed. All animals are also spayed or neutered. Only animals in good health are made available for adoption. Donations of cat and dog food are gratefully accepted, although the shelter cannot take any opened bags of pet food.
If you would like to make a donation to the shelter or to the Susie Fund, established to pay any medical bills that the animals might need, please send your check to the Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard, P.O. Box 190, Edgartown, MA 02539. Everyone is welcome to drop by the shelter to give loving attention to the animals or just sit and watch them. If you would like to volunteer, please call the shelter manager and she will be happy to put your name on our volunteer list.
Shelter hours are Wednesdays 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The shelter is closed Sunday through Tuesday. The telephone number is 508-627-8662.
Cats available for adoption this week are: Murray, a neutered male orange tiger about one year old; Kevin, a gray and white neutered male cat; Echo, a neutered female cat who is rather shy and needs some loving socializing. Binx, Socks, Chloe, Butter, Rascal, Fisher and Ceilia are all cats who have been at the shelter for a long time and really need to find homes.
Our two dogs available for adoption are: Roxy, a four-year-old neutered male Rotweiller-boxer mix who gets along very well with other dogs and children but not too well with cats; and Missy, a beautiful year-old purebred pit bull who is beautifully trained and loves children and other dogs. She has a gorgeous red and white coat and is very obedient.
