Trophy Is Future, Ice Rink Is Present

Almost everyone around these parts, save the occasional hermit living off the grid, knows the Bruins won the Stanley Cup this year. It’s easy to marvel at the skills of those players and rejoice, but it’s also important to take a moment and wonder just where those players came from.

The answer is, for the most part, public ice rinks, those breeding grounds for many a rink rat with dreams of professional hockey glory.

Tonight you get the chance to help out Vineyard hockey dreamers, not to mention those skaters of the rubber ankled variety who view a hockey stick more as a crutch to lean on than something with which to score a goal.

The MV Chowder House (formerly the Ocean Club) is hosting its 11th annual Ice Savours party to benefit the Martha’s Vineyard Ice Arena. The festivities are from 6 to 9 p.m. and include a wine tasting, hors d’oeuvres and a night full of surprises; our vote is they’ve iced down the dance floor. A silent auction is from 6 to 8 p.m.

The Chowder House is located at 9 Ocean avenue in downtown Oak Bluffs. For more details, call 508-693-5329.
