President Obama is scheduled to address the approaching hurricane this morning at 11:30 from Blue Heron Farm, the White House said.

Hurricane Irene continues its march up the East Coast and is forecast to hit land in the Outer Banks of North Carolina before moving toward Long Island and New England. Although its path remains uncertain, weather forecasters say that because of its wide swath, New England should be prepared for a storm surge, high winds and rain.

The Edgartown Police Department has updated its web site, www.edgartownpolice.org with new hurricane preparedness information. You can download their Hurricane Checklist and the Edgartown Emergency Preparedness Guide.
