Please Adopt Us

The Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard is featuring a beautiful, spayed, female, black and white, two-year-old, short-haired cat named Penny. The most startling feature of this cat is her double paws — for those of you who love double-pawed cats this is the cat for you. Please come to see her. We are also featuring a new batch of kittens who just came into the shelter to be adopted, along with their very sweet mother who will be available to be adopted as soon as she is spayed. The kittens are eight weeks old — four darling gray and black tiger tabbies and one black one. As soon as they have been health checked, given their first shots and wormed they will be ready to go. Please call the shelter at 508-627-8662 for more information and to be put on our waiting list for kittens — it is a long list. We also have a waiting list for five little kittens who are still too young to be adopted but will be ready in about two weeks.

It makes us rather sad to know that so many people want kittens when we have such beautiful adult cats still waiting for new homes. Remember kittens grow up quickly and become big cats, so please consider adopting one of our older cats. They are: Binx, a black cat with beautiful white whiskers who is finally coming out of her shell and just loves to be petted; Chloe, a brindle and black; Rascal, a gray and black tabby; Annabelle, a beautiful tuxedo cat who is rather shy; Ceilia, another black cat and also rather shy; Bart, a black two-year-old cat; Echo, an older black cat; Murray, a very sweet and friendly orange tiger who is two years old; and Kevin, a lovely Russian blue and white cat about a year old.

Is anyone in the Chilmark area missing two very friendly wire-haired dachshunds? They were picked up as strays by the Chilmark animal control officer and taken to the Animal Health Care vet hospital for the required 10-day period. At this writing they have not been claimed and are now at the shelter and will be ready for adoption in a week or so when they have been vet checked and received their shots. It is very unusual for two such nice animals not to be claimed, so if anyone reading this column knows anything about these two nice dogs, please call Lisa at the shelter. The female is light brown and the male is brown and black.

Shelter hours are Wednesdays 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The shelter is closed Sunday through Tuesday.
