Superior Court Session

Civil and criminal trial sessions in Dukes County Superior Court begin next week in Edgartown and are expected to run through the end of October.

The Hon. Cornelius J. Moriarty 2nd will preside during the sessions, after hearing motions in criminal cases today in Edgartown.

Among today’s cases is the arraignment of David Thrift, 30, of Vineyard Haven, who was accused in July of assaulting his wife, fleeing his house and later returning and raping a 15-year-old female visitor at knifepoint.

On Monday, a new grand jury will be called, said clerk of courts Joseph E. Sollitto Jr., while the sitting grand jury is expected to reconvene in the middle of the month to attempt to complete its business.

Superior court sessions are usually scheduled twice a year here — in April and October.
