Golf, boys’ soccer and field hockey all have home games this Tuesday, with golf continuing their home stand on Wednesday. Also on Wednesday, cross-country returns to the Island for a dual meet against Somerset.

The Vineyarders took on undefeated Assabet Valley Regional Vocational Tech at home last Friday, falling 24-12 after suffering four turnovers.

The scoreboard remained empty for the first quarter, with Assabet putting up two touchdowns — each with its own two-point conversion — in the second. Senior running back Ryan Fisher took off on a 48-yard run halfway through the second to set up senior quarterback Delmont Araujo for a 16-yard touchdown. Araujo fired a bullet to Brandon Watkins for the two-point conversion, but the Aztec defense had forced Watkins out of bounds. The Vineyarders entered the second half down 16-6.

The team forced an Aztec punt at the start of the third quarter, after which senior fullback Tyler Araujo cut further into the Assabet lead by rushing 84 yards down field into the end zone to make the score 16-12.

Despite a strong defensive effort led by seniors Denver Maciel (16 tackles), Michael Montanile (13 tackles), Jeremy Maciel (10 tackles) and Tyler Araujo (nine tackles) and junior Doug Andrade (10 tackles), however, the Aztecs would put up one more touchdown with 5:00 to go in the fourth.

The Vineyarders are now 1-3, but remain 1-0 in conference.
