Throughout the spring and summer the folks at the Vineyard Ghosts Walking Tour have delighted and frightened visitors and Islanders alike during their tours through the three down-Island towns. The journeys travel literally through graveyards and to homes and businesses known to have haunted roots. They also travel much farther, to times past and the legends that birthed these spectral necromancers: A violent or too soon demise, whalers and their wives separated too early and their grief flowing everlasting, the cursed and revengeful.

Now that the crowds have left the Island the tours are no longer part of the weekly ebb and flow. But that doesn’t mean they are not available. Take note of when the moon is full, or the sky dark and stormy, and call the folks up for a private tour. They’ll be glad you did. When you know too much about what and whom wanders these seemingly quiet Island streets it’s better to be out and about with a crowd.

Note, there will be one more scheduled tour on Halloween night beginning at 8 p.m. in Edgartown. Meet in front of Edgartown Books on Main street.

For those with children, never fear, the tours are family friendly. Honest.
