Edgartown voters agreed to spend money on a real estate appraisal of the dilapidated Capt. Warren House at a special town meeting Tuesday night, the first step in the potential sale of the property.

Selectman Art Smadbeck said the $10,000 real estate appraisal is intended as a planning tool, not a commitment to sell the house.

Voters also approved converting the silos at Katama Farm into cell phone antennas, and granted selectmen permission to issue a request for proposal for the site. The antennas, intended to expand cell phone coverage in Katama and parts of Chappaquiddick, would be built inside abandoned silos.

Other approved articles included a new air compressor for the fire department, commemorative plaques for the town’s fire museum and $10,000 to assist in tax-title takings and foreclosures. Town administrator Pamela Dolby said the town has taken three houses in the past year due to foreclosure.

All 15 articles on the warrant were approved. The meeting was rescheduled from last week due to a lack of quorum.
