Martha’s Vineyard will be part of a new 9th congressional district under a redistricting plan announced this week.

Shortly after the plan was unveiled by legislative leaders, Rep. William Keating released a statement saying he will change his residency from Quincy to the Cape so he can run in the new district.

Remaining in Quincy would pit Mr. Keating against another Democrat, Rep. Stephen F. Lynch of South Boston in a reconfigured district. The new 9th congressional district includes the Cape and Islands, the South Coast, and coastal sections of Plymouth County. Mr. Keating said he has owned a home on the Cape for 17 years.

“I look forward to continuing to represent the people I’m currently serving, as well as the new communities that will be a part of this district in the future,” Mr. Keating said.
