Currently, Venus in Fur, the new play by David Ives, is appearing on Broadway. The show gained stellar reviews last year when it opened off Broadway and the performance of ingenue actress Nina Arianda has mesmerized critics. This week’s New Yorker has a feature on her.

But why mention this here, in the Gazette? Never fear, dear reader, this is not just a bit of torment aimed at everyone not living in New York city. Rather, this is to give notice that one does not need to head south to see the work of Mr. Ives. All one has to do is wander over to the Vineyard Haven Library on Sunday, Nov. 13, at 2 p.m., when the Peter H. Luce play readers present All in the Timing, a group of short plays by Mr. Ives.

All in the Timing originated as an evening of one-act comedies that premiered at Primary Stages in New York in 1993 before moving to the larger John Houseman Theatre, eventually running for 606 performances. The production was awarded the Outer Critics Circle John Gassner Award for Playwriting.

Leslie J. Stark will direct the plays which serve as the first program in the Sunday with Friends series to be offered monthly at the library throughout the winter. All of the performances are free.

Established in 1997, the Peter H. Luce play readers meet weekly on Wednesday mornings at the Tisbury Senior Center to read and discuss great stage plays. Readers for the performance at the library will include Mike Adell, Sofia Anthony, Elaine Bart, Ellie Beth, Polly Brown, Katharine Colon, Linda Comstock, Anne Good, Connie McCreery, Nora Nevin, Jay Sigler, and Leslie J. Stark.

The group is always open to recruiting new members.
