As part of the town’s application for a Green Community designation, Tisbury selectmen signed off Tuesday on a policy to purchase only fuel-efficient vehicles in the future. Emergency vehicles are exempt from the policy.

Selectmen also approved a post-closure use permit application for the town landfill. The application will go to the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection and, if approved, will allow the town to install photovoltaic panels at the landfill site.

“I think we can [have] $50,000 to $60,000 a year in energy savings for the town,” said town administrator John Bugbee. “That’s a good thing, and that’s every year.”

“We’ll make sure this thing keeps moving ahead.”

Looking still further ahead, the board approved a change for the 2012 election schedule to avoid conflict with the April school vacation. The Tisbury special town meeting will take place April 3, with the annual town meeting taking place April 10. Elections will be held on April 24.

Clarence A. (Trip) Barnes 3rd appeared before the board to present a case against the proposed roundabout, but chairman Geoghan Coogan opted against further discussion on the matter due to selectman Tristan Israel’s absence from the meeting.
