Congratulations to the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School football teams in their victory over Nantucket on Saturday. We will look forward to the Whalers’ return to the Vineyard next November.

Chilmark Chocolates will be open all weekend for your holiday shopping pleasure. The donation basket this month will benefit the Island Food Pantry.

Deer season opens Monday, Nov. 28 and runs through Dec. 10. There is no limit on deer without antlers during shotgun season, but only two antlered deer may be shot. Please remember to dress in bright orange.

Condolences to the family and friends of Peter Devine, who died on Nov. 17 at his home in Oak Bluffs. Peter was the son of Cynthia Moreis Viera and the late Herbert Devine Sr. and a descendant of the Devine and Jerrod families of Aquinnah. He is also survived by his wife, Marie, and his daughters, Donna and Marie, brother, Herbert Devine Jr., and many nieces and nephews and aunts and uncles across the Vineyard. Services were held on Wednesday.

Penny Huff was delighted that she and her husband, James Glavin, would have all four of their children at home for the Thanksgiving holiday. Celeste has recently returned from Switzerland, where she worked on a very special project. James Glavin Jr. will be home for the holiday for the first time in five years. Maya works as an architect in Chicago and their youngest, Farley, is working on the Vineyard. The Glavin family will be joined by Penny’s mother, Constance Fuller Sanborn, as well as by her brothers, Arlie (Chico) Huff Jr. and Nicholas Huff.

Marshall Lee and his wife, Martha Vanderhoop, are looking forward to their Thanksgiving holiday when Sam will arrive home from his senior year at Yale University and JoJo will arrive home from his freshman year at Columbia University.

Condolences to the family and friends of Melvin Leventhal, former summer resident. He was the widower of Marilyn Leventhal and together they were longtime friends of the late Rabbi Milton Weissberg and his wife, Thelma (Vanderhoop). Services were held on Sunday morning in Boston, attended by members of the Giles family, who had remained friends of the family over the decades.

Aquinnah library assistant Rosa Parker planned on spending her holiday in Boston with family members feeding those less fortunate at food kitchens.

For those who would like to contribute to those less fortunate on the Vineyard, donations may be sent to Vineyard Committee on Hunger, Family-to-Family Program: Box 468, Vineyard Haven, MA 02568. A $25 donation will assist the program in providing a meal for a family during the Christmas holiday.

Flip Scipio and his wife, Mitzi Pratt, returned this past week from a trip to Holland to celebrate the 88th birthday of his mom.

Condolences to the family and friends of Peter Regan Jr., who passed away in Ohio. Peter was the son of Eulalie Regan and the late Peter Regan Sr. His extensive contract work in Ohio was shared with family members of yours truly from their offices near him.

Condolences also to the family and friends of Rose Treat, who passed away in Oak Bluffs. Rose and her late husband, Larry, were former residents of Lobsterville.

Aquinnah photographer John Wightman has his Island images on display at the Bank of Martha’s Vineyard at Beetlebung Corner in Chilmark during banking hours over the next few week. The images are available for purchase.

Happy birthday wishes this week to Capt. Dick Thompson on Nov. 26 and to Charles Pitett who shares the same day.

Captain Louis Larsen will observe his special day on Nov. 27 and shares the day with Martha Thorne and Josh Bergan. Peter Ochs will observe a major milestone on Nov. 27. Carlos Montoya will observe a major milestone on Nov. 28 and shares the day with Diamond (Ellie) Vanderhoop.

A very special wish to Joseph Spinelli as he celebrates on Nov. 29 and shares the day with Karl Burgess, Al Alley III, Noni Smith and Jane Belanger Norton. Aquinnah police detective Ryan Ruley will celebrate on Nov. 30.

Fellow Vineyard Gazette columnist John S. Alley will observe a major milestone on Dec. 1 and shares the day with Doris Hamel, Coltrane Leport, who will be 12, and Ryan Mendez, who will be 10 years old. Noah Mayrand will party on Dec. 2.
