Here we are at the end of November and we are still out in light jackets and pants. I must say it is much easier putting up outside decorations in the warmer air.

Happy birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Myllenna DeOliveira, who celebrated her day Nov. 19; Carina Cataloni, Greg McCarron, and Kaio Pereira, who all celebrated their day Nov. 20; Daniel Serpa, who celebrated Nov. 24, and Marina Nunes, who celebrated her day Nov. 25.

Thanksgiving is over now; Christmas is in overdrive. It is Black Friday and I am sure all the stores are full of shoppers getting their deal of the year and trying to get that perfect present for their loved ones. The town will soon be busy getting ready for Christmas in Edgartown.

On Saturday, Dec. 3 at 4 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 4 at 2 p.m., Children in the Arts of Martha’s Vineyard will present the 14th annual Nutcracker Gala at the Martha’s Vineyard High School Performing Arts Center. Be a part of the magic as you witness the Nutcracker Prince’s triumphant battle with the Mouse King. Experience the beauty of darting snowflakes, Arabian and Spanish dancers and the Sugar Plum Fairy. Delight in the sight of Mother Ginger, and feel inspired as you watch Clara’s dreams come true. Edgartown children performers in the Nutcracker include Sarah Pertile, Addy Hayman, Alexis Condon, Mackenzie Condon, Tatum Thomas, Genevieve Hyland, Eleanor Hyland, Hannah Murphy, Annabelle Viera, Piper Okan, Evelyn Brewer, and Shealyn Smyth. Adult Edgartown performers include Carlene Gatting, Lauren Oskan, George Oskan, Darren Belisle, and Lucia Hayman. Tickets are $15 for general admission and $25 for priority center seating. This year’s Nutcracker will also have a family cap for ticket prices, good only on the day of the event. The cost is $50 for two adults and three children in the same family. Tickets may be purchased at ticketsmv.com.

Congratulations to the junior varsity and varsity high school football teams on their victories over Nantucket. This is a rivalry that has been going on for a very long time and it’s always sweet victory when we bring home the Island Cup. Go Vineyarders!

Happy shopping to all of you who follow the sales over the next few weekends, and don’t forget to put into your schedules the Christmas in Edgartown weekend, beginning Friday, Dec. 9. Friday night there is a kickoff with an open house at Donaroma’s. It is not going to be the Evening of Enchantment, but it will be a vision for your eyes to see.

Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
