Aquinnah Town Meeting
Aquinnah selectmen have called a special town meeting for next Wednesday seeking voter approval for them to sign a lease with Vineyard Power for a solar project at the town landfill.
Moderator Michael Hebert will preside over the special session Wednesday, Dec. 7, at 7 p.m. at the old town hall. The solar lease is the only article on the warrant.
Voters will decide whether the town can enter into a 10-year lease with Vineyard Power to build a 50-kilowatt system of about 200 panels. The panels would produce enough electricity to power all the town buildings. The project will cost roughly $340,000 to build and at no cost to the town. Private investment and federal grant monies will be used to pay for it.
At the annual town meeting in May, Aquinnah voters agreed to have the town investigate a solar project for the landfill but required any lease to come back to town meeting for final approval.
