Wreaths Across America

Island veterans and school children from the Tisbury Elementary School will gather for a simple service of remembrance. The program is part of Wreaths Across America and it will be led by Jo Ann Murphy, the county veterans agent and a Viet Nam era veteran. The short but thoughtful program at Oak Grove Cemetery in Tisbury starts at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Dec. 9.

“This is our eighth year,” said Mrs. Murphy, who will speak. She said she will talk about veterans and their important role in this country and the world and that their service to this country needs to be honored, especially by the young. This is part of a nationwide observance which will take place across the country on Saturday.

Close to a half dozen wreaths will be placed in the cemetery as part of that remembrance.

School principal John Custer and history students from grades five and six will attend. For more information on this event nationwide visit wreathsacrossamerica.org.
