Please Adopt Us

Our feature story this week is a disturbing story of a beautiful ginger tiger cat who was left in a closed up backpack outside of the Vineyard Vet Clinic. He was found by one of the vet techs who brought him over to the Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard, where he was fed and put in a nice warm cage and given a lot of loving attention. We named him Westie and he is now ready for adoption. Please do not leave an animal unattended at the shelter or at any of the veterinary offices, or anywhere else for that matter — it is cruel and during this cold weather could be fatal to an animal. The shelter is here to help people who cannot care for their animals anymore — for whatever reason — and does not judge people who must give up their pets. Westie is a sweetheart and we hope will make someone very happy this Christmas.

Our other cats available for adoption are: Chloe, a sweet brindle and black kitty who came from an abusive home and just wants to be loved; Butter, another brindle and white cat who loves attention; Annabelle, a shy black and white cat who would be a wonderful project for anyone looking for a challenge to bring her out of her shell; Ceilia, our shelter mascot who loves people and greets everyone with a polite meow; Storm, a black and white very young cat who loves attention but is not too sure about other cats; Agatha, a new cat to the shelter who was brought in to stay for a couple of weeks and has been abandoned by her owner and is now ready to find a new home; Notorious, aka Charlie, a real character, all black and loves to climb on anything reachable; Nomar, our big, fluffy Himalayan who is a real love and just craves attention; Kitty Randolph, a big lovely female tabby.

At this writing the shelter also has two absolutely adorable kittens named Kimberly and Kathleen, tabby sisters who have had the shelter staff in stitches with their antics. We would love to have them go to a new home together because they are so bonded. They are only about eight weeks old and would make a perfect present to any animal lover (they may be gone by the time the Gazette comes out but call us at the shelter if you are interested).

Laurie Clements who is the Tisbury animal control officer in Vineyard Haven has some ferrets who are looking for homes ; call Laurie at 508-696-4209 if you are a ferret lover.

If you would like to join the Shelter in the parade tomorrow, please be at the school by 10:45 a.m. with your dog on a leash (not 9:45 as was noted in last week’s column).

Shelter hours are Wednesdays 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The shelter is closed Sunday through Tuesday. The telephone number is 508-627-8662.
