Santa arrived at the Aquinnah town hall on Wednesday evening. He was glad to see all the young children of Aquinnah and handed each one of them their specially selected gift.

Congratulations to Paul Henry Jeffers-Mayhew, a freshman, and Faith Smalley, who achieved the honor roll at Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School.

Noah Manning and his mom, Theresa, and yours truly enjoyed the Minnesingers concert at the Old Whaling Church recently. Thank you to director Jan Wightman for the invitation to sing, but the Minnesingers had not formed while I was a student at Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School.

Noah, Theresa and husband, Paul, returned home on Sunday evening after spending the weekend in Lincoln, N.H. They were joined by close friend Oono Buresch Carroll, sister, Emme, and parents, Christopher and Kendra Buresch Carroll; their cousins, Brooks and Bradley Carroll, and their parents, Marshall and Katie Tamoshunas Carroll, and another Flanders cousin, Bella Thorpe, and her mother, Julianna Flanders.

Two-and-a-half-year-old Emmett Cole Taylor would like to welcome his extended Hoye family who will be gathering in Aquinnah to celebrate Christmas with him and his parents, Isaac and Noli Taylor. Emmett’s grandparents, Charley Hoye and Kathie Olsen, have already arrived from Oregon. Noli’s sister, Laurie, and her husband, Anil, and their son, Kavi Dewan, will arrive in time for Christmas, as will Noli’s brother, Alex Hoye.

Congratulations to Noli Taylor for her presentation on Tuesday night at the Chilmark Community Center. Through her tireless efforts, the children in the up-Island school district will hopefully have nutritious foods prepared at the West Tisbury school.

Welcome home to Zachary Wallen, who has recently been in the Bahamas. During the past year he has traveled to some of the most interesting parts of the world, stopping at the Arctic, the Middle East and many points in between.

Congratulations to Jesse Wiener, son of Jerry Wiener and Carolyn Feltz, who has made his Broadway debut. Jesse was recently the stand-in assistant music director for Godspell while playing piano and guitar.

Welcome home to our troops after many years of serving in Afghanistan and Iraq. I know that we will welcome Matthew Bradley back to the Vineyard in the next few weeks. He has left Iraq and will spend time in California before heading home. Thank you, Matthew, and to all who have served.

Happy Hanukkah for those who started their observance of the festival of lights on Wednesday. Merry Christmas wishes to family and friends across the land. May you have a wonderful time as your celebrate with your family and friends. Be mindful of those less fortunate.

Presents are no longer needed at this age when one must begin to downsize their life. It would be most appreciated if you would donate to the following nonprofits: Martha’s Vineyard Center for Living, Martha’s Vineyard Community Services, Family-to-Family and Serving Hands Food Distribution, Martha’s Vineyard Shellfish Group, Inc., Aquinnah Public Library.
