New Year’s Celebrations

This New Year’s Eve there are options from the glitz and glam to the low key, plus walking out to the Edgartown Lighthouse in your pajamas.

In Oak Bluffs, the Martha’s Vineyard Chowder Company is preparing a prix-fixe, five-course meal with seatings at 5, 7:30, and 10 p.m. Jeff Davis, who sings everything from Sinatra to Elvis, serenades and at midnight there is a champagne toast.

Offshore Ale Company has extended New Year’s Eve hours and Seasons rings in the evening with a karaoke party. The Ritz Cafe, no stranger to celebrating, is ready to rock and roll on New Year’s Eve, and, for those with extra batteries, it is also hosting a Hair of the Dog party on New Year’s Day with the Mike Benjamin Band and plenty of hangover food.

Anyone wishing to start early in Oak Bluffs can head over to the Pit Stop, a new alternative art space on Dukes County avenue (across from Tony’s Market) for a potluck and some Island music. The party starts at 6 p.m. and performers include Dan Waters, Marciana Jones, Nina Violet, Willy Mason, Kahoots, Master Exploder, Chris Brokaw Band, the Loogies, Taxidermists and Zachary Sawmiller with Tim Laursen’s robot drummer. Organizers of the event are hoping to increase interest in creating an art space out of the former garage.

Those wishing to slip on some serious dancing shoes can head over to Deon’s in Oak Bluffs where Island Salsa is hosting an all ages dance party.

The newly opened Alexandra Gagnon Teen Center at the YMCA is hosting a dance party with a DJ and live performances for students ages 13 through 18 on Friday, Dec. 30, from 7 to 11 p.m.

In West Tisbury Jeremy Berlin strokes the piano keys over a four-course meal at the Lambert’s Cove Inn. At 10 p.m., Mr. Berlin jumps into a nearby phone booth and returns as a rocker with Johnny Hoy and the Bluefish for a night of dancing. Tickets are $150 per person and include food, hats, sound makers, and streamers.

State Road restaurant is open for two seatings; a three-course meal at 6 p.m. and a five-course meal beginning at 5 p.m.

For the Vineyard Haven crowd, Zephrus has a five-course chef’s tasting menu which includes roasted rack of lamb with asiago-spinach risotto in a roasted garlic and red wine sauce. To work up an appetite, the Katharine Cornell Theater in Vineyard Haven is playing host to a benefit concert featuring Tristan Israel, Paul Thurlow and Kevin Keady. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. with a suggested donation of $12. Proceeds go to help the endangered African Bonobo monkeys.

And in Edgartown, Alchemy is offering a prix-fixe dinner at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Down the street the funk cover band, the Boogies, play the Wharf Pub with all-you-can-eat treats and a complimentary toast at midnight. Tickets are $30.

Tickets for the Harbor View Hotel New Year’s Eve gala are sold out but that doesn’t mean you can’t go jammy-style with slippers and blankets on the sand to watch the midnight fireworks light up Edgartown Harbor.

Whatever you choose, make it a Happy and Safe New Year.
