Please Adopt Us

Do you own your own home with a nice fenced-in yard and no other animals? Have you always wanted just one dog? If so, we have a special dog just for you at the Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard. Her name is Missy and she is a year-old purebred pit bull. Missy is extremely well behaved and loves people, but doesn’t like other dogs. If you would like to come see her, and you fit the bill for adopting her, she will make a wonderful pet.

Our other dog is Mackenzie, a big, handsome, strong, purebred Chesapeake Bay retriever. She is quite vocal but lovable, and needs an owner who is strong and willing to be the boss.

The shelter also has a sweet, white bunny, very friendly. She was living outdoors in a cage that was on the ground but it is just too cold for that now. She loves being inside and has a cute story which is quite remarkable. If you would like to hear it, call the shelter at the number at the end of the column.

Then there is the cat named Lily, new to the shelter, black, very friendly, a real darling who gets along well with other cats.

Other shelter cats are: Chloe, who is brindle and black; Butter, who is brindle, black and white; Annabelle, a shy black and white kitty; Ceilia, our beautiful black shelter mascot who would do wonderfully in a home of her own; Napoleon, a big, sweet Maine Coon cat; Kitty Randolph, very friendly gray-striped tabby; Westie, a wonderful cat who was abandoned cruelly and rescued by a vet tech and shows no sign of his traumatic experience; and Deacon and Eric, two yellow tabbies. We also have a six-month old black kitten who is adorable; his name is Barnie. He loves to play and would make a great indoor cat (winter is no time for a young cat to be wandering around outside).

Shelter hours are Wednesdays 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The shelter is closed Sunday through Tuesday. The telephone number is 508-627-8662.
