West Tisbury voters will get their chance to weigh in on the Oak Bluffs roundabout this spring. On Wednesday the board of selectmen voted to place a non-binding resolution about the issue on the town’s April election ballot.

“Should a roundabout be built at the blinker intersection?” the referendum asks.

On Jan. 13 West Tisbury resident Barbara Day hand-delivered a petition with the ballot question, and the required 10 signatures, to town hall, but it was two days after the Jan. 11 deadline for such submissions. As a result, on Wednesday selectmen voted unanimously, and with no discussion, to place the question on the ballot themselves.

The West Tisbury board of selectmen has been outspoken in its opposition to the roundabout and referred the project to the Martha’s Vineyard Commission in June. The town is currently engaged in a joint lawsuit with the town of Edgartown challenging the commission’s subsequent approval of the project.
