Another Edgartown business is on the verge of leaving downtown. The Town Provision Company liquor store on Mayhew Lane is one step closer to moving to the airport after a Martha’s Vineyard Commission subcommittee voted to recommend the plan’s approval to the full commission.

Owner Brion McGroarty, who holds a year-round liquor license, says there’s virtually no business in downtown Edgartown from October to May. He hopes to move the business to a new, 2,700 square-foot facility that will adjoin the Nectar’s/Flatbread building at the airport, which is also part of Edgartown. The commission’s land use planning committee met on Monday to review the plans and voted unanimously to recommend them. A public hearing on the relocation is scheduled for Feb. 16.

On Monday commissioner Linda Sibley noted that the new location would likely attract business from up-Islanders, who otherwise have to drive to downtown Edgartown or Oak Bluffs for alcohol.
