At its annual meeting last week, the Edey Foundation awarded $72,160 to the following organizations:

BiodiversityWorks for the study of beach nesting birds and associated education and protection; the Vineyard Conservation Society for natural resource protection at Moshup Trail; the Vineyard Energy Project for their in-school education program; Massachusetts Audubon Society at Felix Neck for its school-based natural history program and for the citizen science program; Martha’s Vineyard Shellfish Group to do a pilot program of seaweed bioremediation in the Lagoon; the Nature Conservancy for control of invasive species; Sheriff’s Meadow Foundation for their education program; and The Trustees of Reservations for shorebird protection.

The Edey Foundation was created in 1988 by the late Maitland Edey of Seven Gates Farm to provide funds for conservation on Martha’s Vineyard. Awards are made on an annual basis.

The Edey Foundation trustees are Beatrice Phear, Mait Edey, Edo Potter, Megan Ottens-Sargent, Matt Poole, George Davis, Penny Uhlendorf, and Kelly McClintock.
