Poetry in Chilmark

Valentine’s Day starts on Sunday afternoon, Feb. 12, when the second annual Valentine’s readings gets under way at the Chilmark Tavern. The program is hosted by West Tisbury Poet Laureate, Fan Ogilvie. This is the first in a series of six readings to be presented by the Pathways Projects Institute, a nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing and catalyzing creative projects in the arts, writings and collaborative forms on the Vineyard.

This first poetry reading takes place between 4 and 6 p.m. and is free. Audience members are invited to bring poems of their own, or favorite poems, to share. Everyone is also invited to write a postcard to add to the collection of Valentines for Japan: Poems from One Island to Another.

The next installment takes place later in the week on Thursday, Feb. 16. Led by Island videographers Valerie Sonnenthal and Jeremy Mayhew, the evening is entitled Digital Visions/Creating Reality and begins at 8 p.m.
