Matt Mincone, head coach of the boys’ varsity hockey team at the regional high school, was named Coach of the Year by the South Shore Chapter of the National Ice Hockey Officials Association. Mr. Mincone has been part of the boys’ hockey program since 1998. He became head coach in 2001.

The South Shore Chapter of the NIHOA is the largest in the state, and recognizes a varsity boys’ and girls’ coach at the end of each season. Mr. Mincone was “the overwhelming choice” of the voting referees, chapter president Jim Lehan told the Gazette.

“He’s really working with the boys to make sure they take pride in playing varsity hockey,” Mr. Lehan said.

The boys’ team has a 12-6-1 record on the season, and will receive their state tournament seedings on Saturday.
