Even though we are loving the warm weather that has been occurring this winter, it still leaves one to wonder what is around the corner for the spring and summer months. I guess we should just enjoy what Mother Nature has been giving us and wait to see what she has in store for us.

Happy Birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Caroline Moffet, who celebrated her day Feb. 17; Kaitlyn Freeman and Ana Kurelja, who celebrated Feb. 18; Ennis Foster, Feb. 19; Kimberly De Araujo, Feb. 20; James White, Feb. 22; Quinn Filault, Feb. 23; and to Tristan Blair, who celebrates his day today, Feb. 24.

Special wishes to one of our favorite hardware men, Jonathan Polleys, who celebrated his day Feb. 23.

Even though spring training has begun we have been involved with a little more local team. The high school girls’ hockey team has won a spot in the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association tournament. The time and place will be announced on Saturday. We attended the game on Wednesday. There were many excited parents and, of course, students. The girls are amazing and have a lot of power behind them. Good luck, ladies! We are all cheering for you.

The Martha’s Vineyard Center for Living is holding its second in a series of cultural luncheons on Saturday, March 3, from noon to 2 p.m. at the Grill on Main. The luncheon will honor our Island Brazilian community. The program speaker is Valci Carvalho. Mr. Carvalho, pastor of the Alliance Community Church, will offer a close look at the contributions and influences of the Brazilian community to the Island of Martha’s Vineyard. Dan Waters will perform on the guitar and Brazilian dancers will perform to gospel music! Tickets are $25 and available by calling director Leslie Clapp at 508-939-9440.

Those who want to participate in Adult and Community Education spring college credit courses should preregister by Tuesday, Feb. 28. More information is available at acemv.org or by contacting director Lynn Ditchfield at lynn@acemv.org or 774-310-1131.

I can see the smiles on the faces of the kids this week as they prepare for their school vacation. Hope all who are off this week have a fun time and travel safe. If you have some traveling news please share. We would love to hear about your adventures.

Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
