Please Adopt Us

The Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard has such good news this week — all our beautiful dogs have been adopted. We are especially happy for Missy, the pit bull. She had been at the shelter for months and the right person just came along and wanted her. He passed all the requirements for adopting a special dog like Missy. Mackenzie has gone to a wonderful Chessie rescue home in New York state, and Riley has also gone to a special home. Thanks to all the new adopters and we hope you will all enjoy your new pals.

Cats available for adoption are: Barley, new to the shelter and quite shy but ready to come out of her shell; Butter and Chloe, two beautiful tortoiseshells; Ceilia and Lily, both beautiful sleek, black cats; Deacon, a beautiful pale beige tiger, sweet and loving; and Eric, our senior citizen who spends hours being rocked and loved by our volunteer, Mary (there will be no adoption fee for Eric); Tigger, a wonderful, loving, gray and white young cat; and Kitty Randolph, a beautiful striped tiger who loves attention. We have just taken in three young teenaged kittens: Isabelle, who is tabby and white; Maxie, a pretty black and white kitten; and L.B (Little Boy), a marble tiger and white, an absolute love. All have been spayed or neutered and are ready for new homes.

We have one bunny named Stewart, a lop-eared gray stray from Vineyard Haven.

Our open house last week was a success and everyone got to tour the shelter and meet the staff and the animals.

Shelter hours are Wednesdays 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The shelter is closed Sunday through Tuesday. The telephone number is 508-627-8662.

Contributions are gratefully accepted; we are funded solely by donations. The Susie Fund was established to pay the medical expenses of animals at the shelter who need medical care. Please make checks out to The Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard; the mailing address is P.O. Box 1829, Edgartown, MA 02539.
