Once again Mother Nature is throwing us a loop. I watched three channels for the weather reports; two said rain and one said snow, so when the storm started I thought for sure we would see snow in some amount. Then it started pouring and brought slush.
I saw Peter Herrmann in the post office the other day and as he went by me he whispered that his crocuses beat mine in blooming.
Happy Birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Kenneth Hammond and Katharine Wallace, who celebrated their day Feb. 25; Benjamin Belisle, Feb. 26; Dylan Burke, Sarah Lively and Christopher Patnaude, Feb. 28; Kelsey Fiske, March 1; and to Kylie Hathaway, who celebrates her day today, March 2.
Special birthday wishes go out to Captain Dick Kelly, who celebrated his day March 1. Birthday wishes go out to Barbara Rogers, who will celebrate her special day March 4.
The high school sports teams are on fire. The girls’ varsity hockey team won their first game of playoffs on home ice on Tuesday and beat Dennis-Yarmouth 5-0. It was a very exciting game and the girls were pumped after scoring in the first two minutes of the game.
Meanwhile, the girls’ varsity basketball team won their playoff game against Ashland with a 49-45 victory. Then the boys won their playoff game against Dedham 79–46.
It has been quite a week at the high school and I know the parents are excited for their kids. Congratulations to all!
I saw Heidi and Aaron Boyd at the rink with daughter, Lauren. They, along with their son, Kyle, were up north skiing. By the pictures it looks like they all had a great time.
I ran into Linley Dolby, who writes the Edgartown column for the other paper, and we were talking on how we needed stories. She told me I could report that her husband, Dave Weagle, has traveled to Taiwan on business. Thanks for the scoop, Linley.
The Martha’s Vineyard Magazine has been nominated for two national magazine awards presented by the City and Regional Magazine Association and the Missouri School of Journalism. They announced that the magazine is one of five finalists for general excellence, and the Spring–Summer Home & Garden issue is one of five finalists for top ancillary publication. Congratulations!
If you have not already heard, the Edgartown Police Department has a bin to dispose of medications that are expired or that you are no longer taking. Residents of all towns are welcome to bring them to the station any time. It is a safer way to dispose of drugs than flushing them down the drain.
