Assault Charges Dropped

An Air Force sergeant accused of assault while on the Vineyard in August as part of President Obama’s protection team will not face charges.

At a show cause hearing in November, district court clerk-magistrate Liza Williamson did not find probable cause to charge Master Sgt. Peter McNally, 41, with indecent assault and battery on a person over 14 and assault and battery.

Mr. McNally, a Florida resident, is an explosives ordnance device expert who was on the Vineyard as a member of the so-called bomb squad employed to protect the president. On August 27, Mr. McNally was accused of groping a woman at the Wharf Pub in Edgartown and punching Jamie Zambrama, the manager of the nearby Atlantic bar.

Mr. Zambrama, 55, also faced assault charges after allegedly striking Mr. McNally repeatedly. The assault and battery charges against both men were dropped by agreement, as both asserted their fifth amendment privileges and neither party wished to continue, according to notes from a November show cause hearing.
