As both high school basketball teams head for the semifinal round of the South Sectional tournament, the Vineyard winter sports postseason has come to a close for both ice hockey team teams.

On Friday the girls’ hockey team ended its historic season and four-game win streak in a heartbreaker of a game against number-four seed Norwood. Trailing 1-0 after the first period, the Vineyarders fought to a 3-3 tie with a minute remaining in the game. Norwood scored with 54 seconds left to take the win. The team finishes with a 14-8 record.

Boys’ hockey closed out its season Saturday with a 3-1 quarterfinals loss to number-four seed Oliver Ames, finishing with a 12-7-2 record. Senior Colby Gouldrup scored for the Vineyard. (Look for more game coverage in Friday’s Gazette.)

Meanwhile, the boys’ and girls’ basketball teams move forward following quarterfinal wins over Bishop Feehan and Ashland, respectively. The 11th-ranked girls will play number-two seed Fairhaven tonight at 5:30 p.m. at Massasoit-Brockton, a neutral site.

The boys’ team will travel to Taunton on Wednesday to take on number 11 seed Westwood. The game is at 5:30 p.m, and the regional high school is providing fan buses.

The buses will leave on the 2:30 boat on Wednesday and travel to Taunton, returning on the 8:30 boat. Tickets are $3 and can be purchased at the high school. Please contact Dawn Feinsmith at 693-1033 extension 114 or dfeinsmith@mvyps.org for more information.
