Please Adopt Us

The Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard is pleased to report that it has a lot of empty cages. Many of our cats have been adopted in recent weeks, and they are happily in their new homes for which we are so thankful.

We still have several cats, all deserving of your consideration. One cat we are featuring this week is Barley. She is a tortoiseshell and white, an indoor/outdoor cat who would make a great mouser. She just isn’t happy being shut in a cage and would so love find a good home.

Our other cats include: Butter and Chloe, both tortoiseshells, quite young and very sweet; Ceilia and Lily, black cats who love to roam around the shelter and are our official greeters; Deacon, a handsome ginger cat; Kitty Randolph, a sweet striped tiger who loves to sit in laps and be cuddled; Tigger, a handsome gray and white cat who really needs some attention and TLC; and Gordon’s pride and joy LB, or lover boy —he loves everybody and is a real lap cat.

Many thanks to Tom Shelby for his Commentary Page piece in the Gazette last week. Tom has done much for the shelter and is truly the dog whisperer of the Vineyard.

Shelter hours are Wednesdays 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The shelter is closed Sunday through Tuesday. The telephone number is 508-627-8662.

Contributions are always gratefully accepted; we are funded solely by donations. The Susie Fund was established to pay the medical expenses of animals at the shelter who need medical care. Please make checks out to The Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard; the mailing address is P.O. Box 1829, Edgartown MA 02539.
