Daffodils are blooming, the red-wing blackbirds are back, people are wearing shorts and flip-flops, and there are record-breaking temperatures all over. I think it is spring, but it feels like summer. Well, whatever it is we won’t complain.

Happy birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Austin Chandler and Lillian Kurelja, who celebrated their day March 17; Marjorie Pendergraft, March 20; Jack Chronister and Jermaine Mendez, who celebrated March 22; and to Angel Shepard, who celebrates her day today, March 23.

With this weather people are starting to call and ask about planting gardens. I know it is so tempting, but I have to remind them that it is only March and so many things could happen between now and June. Hold off and play it safe by waiting.

For those of you who remember Micki and Dave Anderson, who lived in Edgartown for a few years with Micki’s children, Brian, Kim and Kayla Whalen — they traveled to Chicago on March 16 to see their daughter, Kayla, become a United States sailor. Kayla went through boot camp and kept everyone on their toes and passed with flying colors. You can see pictures on Facebook showing Kayla as a proud sailor in the new uniform that she will be wearing for the next four years. Congratulations, Kayla; we are all so proud of you and thank you in advance for the service to our country.

I talked to Mary Ellen Kresel last week and she is adjusting well to her new life in the Villages in Florida. She and Bella are making friends and Mary Ellen has participated in many community activities. She is even going to take golfing lessons. It has been an adjustment, but they seem to be very happy.
