Please Adopt Us
The Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard had another successful adoption week, but still has six nice cats who need good homes. Lily is a real sweetheart, not content to stay in a cage. During the day she is allowed to roam the shelter, and usually spends time sleeping in Lisa’s office. Ceilia is our shelter mascot and would be a loving pet. She gets along beautifully with the other cats and would love to find a comfortable place to sleep in your home. Butter and Chloe are our two handsome tortoiseshells. Chloe has come out of her shell and now is ready for a long-term home, as is Butter. Barley is an unusually marked tortoiseshell and a bit shy still, but has a lot of potential to be a loving house cat for someone who has the time to give TLC. Tigger is gray and white and a bit feisty, and would do well as an only cat.
The Shelter has a “Wish List” of tools and repair items, which are badly needed to maintain the building. These tools are available at the Edgartown Hardware Store on the West Tisbury Road. If anyone would like to purchase any item on the list the store will deliver them to the shelter.
It has come to our attention that people from the Chilmark area are being told to drop off stray animals in need of medical attention at the shelter. If the shelter is not open, they have been told to put the animal in a box and leave it on the steps. This is definitely not the correct thing to do; it is cruel to leave an animal unattended for any length of time, especially if the animal is in need of medical attention. Please call before bringing an animal to the shelter so we can set up a time.
Shelter hours are Wednesdays 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The shelter is closed Sunday through Tuesday. The telephone number is 508-627-8662.
Volunteers are needed and contributions are always gratefully accepted; we are funded solely by donations. The Susie Fund was established to pay the medical expenses of animals at the shelter who need medical care. Please make checks out to The Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard; the mailing address is P.O. Box 1829, Edgartown, MA 02539.
