This weekend, the Island Community Chorus, under the direction of Peter Boak, will present two performances of its spring 2012 concert program, Beethoven and Friends, at the Performing Arts Center of the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School.
The chorus is made up of one hundred singers who have been rehearsing weekly since Jan. 9.
The concerts are at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 31, and 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 1.
The Chorus, now in its 16th year, is dedicating this weekend’s performances to the memory of John Ebbs, who died on March 16. Mr. Ebbs served for six years as the organization’s first president.
The concert includes five choral works, including The Heavens Are Telling from Handel’s Creation, Schubert’s Tantum ergo, two movements from Hummel’s First Mass, Cherubini’s Dies Irae and Beethoven’s Hallelujah Chorus.
Lisa Weiss, the Todd Distinguished Professor of Music at Goucher College, will perform the first movement from Franz Schubert’s Sonata in B-flat Major, D960.
Admission is a suggested donation of $15 at the door for both concerts.
