Two safes containing minimal amounts of money were stolen early Monday morning from the Martha’s Vineyard Chowder Company in Oak Bluffs, restaurant owner J.B. Blau confirmed. Mr. Blau said he reported the incident to the Oak Bluffs police and added that he has video evidence of the break-in. Mr. Blau said he is “99 per cent confident” that the case will be resolved “in the near future. We’re following leads.”

At about 5:51 a.m., a window in the office was broken where the safes — which Mr. Blau said contained mostly loose change — were located. Other than the broken window there was no other damage and the restaurant is open for business as usual, he said. Oak Bluffs police confirmed that they received the complaint from Mr. Blau.
