KATHIE CASE

The wind has been blowing and keeping the temperatures down but spirits are still up. The street sweeper was out and doing side streets and the landscapers are going full blast getting the leftover leaves out of gardens and yards.
Happy birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Nicholas Carpenter and Hollis Kelly, who celebrated their day March 31; Peter Vincent, April 1; Matthew Strem, Jordan Tate-Da Silva, Joshua Tate-Da- Silva, and Kasey Varkonda, who all celebrated April 2; and to Sean Hegarty and Gregory Pyden, who celebrated their day April 4.
Easter Sunday is in two days. The Easter candies have been out for a long time, tulips and Easter lilies are coming into bloom at the florist shops, and I am sure the ministers are working on great sermons. I used to love it when the Rev. John Schule would get up in the pulpit and look out at the biggest congregation he had seen in a long time and say: “You do know we are here every Sunday at this time.”
Speaking of Easter, if you see someone walking in town with a little yellow dog, do not be dismayed, it is only the dog belonging to Ellen Bernard Blodgett, owner of Dog Gone Pretty. Usually it is Magoo, the white poodle who changes colors, but this time it is Millie, Ellen’s little dog who will also have bunny ears on Easter Sunday. I sure hope Millie can carry lots of eggs.
The 20th annual Earth Day beach clean-up day will be April 21, from 10 to noon. Pick your favorite beach and there will be volunteers there to meet you with all the supplies you will need to help pick up the beach. Edgartown beaches include Fuller street, Wilson’s Landing, left and right forks at South Beach, State Beach and Lighthouse Beach.
There are many Easter egg hunts this weekend, including one at the Edgartown Boys’ and Girls’ Club on Saturday at 1 p.m. Even if you don’t have children, it’s fun to see all the kids running for the eggs. You will be amazed at how fast they are all picked up.
I hope you all have a great Easter and that you have a chance to spend some time with family.
Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
