Flamenco Guitar
Flamenco guitar master Alberto de Almar performs at the Chilmark Free Public Library on Wednesday, April 11, at 5:30 p.m. In addition to playing Mr. de Almar will talk about the history of the flamenco style and demonstrate the techniques.
Originally from Miami, Mr. de Almar has been playing music professionally all over the world for 53 years. In addition to releasing three CDs, he’s appeared on recordings with Alicia Keyes, Julio Iglesias, Charo, Doug Cameron, Frank Zappa, Don Preston, Freddie Hubbard and Minnie Ripperton. His bands have also opened on national tours for the Allman Brothers, the Grateful Dead, Edgar and Johnny Winter, Sly and The Family Stone and many others.
The man is in demand. Oh yeah, he also composed the film score for the Sidney Sheldon mini-series The Sands of Time and has performed his original music on screen in films such as Spike Lee’s Love and Basketball.
And now he’s rocking the Chilmark Library. We are a lucky Island.
The performance is sponsored by the Friends of the Chilmark Library and admission is free.
Call the library for information at 508-645-3360.
