April Showers bring May flowers. We have the flowers but we really do need the showers. Though we have had beautiful days, the wind has been keeping the temperatures down. Still, the sun makes you smile and gives the energy you need to get though a day.

Happy birthday to all who had birthdays this past week. Big balloons go out to Hailey Rogers, who celebrated her day April 7; Gabriella Benoit, Cana Courtney and Mauricio Sampaio, who all celebrated April 8; Mariah Donahue, April 9; Brendyn Cimeno, April 10; Caroline Dolby, April 11; and to Genevieve Hyland and Joshua Willoughby, who celebrated their day today, April 13.

Special birthday wishes go to Francis “Sandy” Fisher, who will be 96 on Saturday, April 14. He is a lifelong Edgartown native — as was his father, his grandfather . . . they go back to the early 1600s. Here is hoping you have many more happy birthdays and a winning scratch ticket.

There are still many spaces open to sign up for meals for the Hargy Family. Chris is still traveling back and forth to the hospital and the girls are very active in sports, which is a great thing. But as many of you know, everything is time consuming and costly, and if we can help one little bit it would make all the difference in the world. You can log on to Hargy’s Helping Hands site, powered by lotsahelpinghands.com. It is very much appreciated by the family.

I attended town meeting and we had two very pleasant surprises. First on the agenda before the meeting started, the Cub Scouts presented the colors before the forum with a perfect ceremony to salute the flag. All the boys dressed in uniform performed with pride. It was an honor to stand before them.

After the end of the special town meeting town poet laureate Steve Ewing read a poem he wrote about Edgartown. Steve prefaced his dad, Harvey Ewing, who was a reporter and very well known for his sense of humor and a great mind. Seems he passed it on to his son.

People are starting to arrive home from the south. Beth and Bill Erickson found their way home last Saturday. Their winter was good with many activities. Socializing with their Florida friends made for a very busy winter. Now they are back home and Bill is getting boats ready to return to the water and Beth is getting ready to get back to work at Morning Glory.

Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
