West Tisbury voters voiced their resounding approval for the sale of beer and wine, a new library and the repaving of most major town roads at Thursday's election.

Voters agreed to the sale of beer and wine at restaurants in the long-dry town by a margin of 499 to 202.

"We're thrilled, and thank you, West Tisbury," said Mary Kenworth, co-owner of State Road Restaurant and a leader of the effort to bring beer and wine sales to the town. The popular restaurant was filled with celebratory diners just after the polls closed Thursday evening.

Voters also reinforced two key decisions made at Tuesday night's annual town meeting: the first, to spend $2.3 million dollars to repave most major town roads; the second, to fund major renovations to the town's undersized library. Voters cast 458 ballots in favor of road repairs, versus 228 against, and 556 votes ballots for the library, versus 128 against. Affirmative town meeting votes on those topics were contingent upon ballot approval.

A nonbinding question gauging support for a roundabout at the blinker light intersection in Oak Bluffs, however, was resoundingly rejected. A total of 505 voters said they opposed the roundabout, with 175 supporting it. Five of the six towns are being asked to weigh in on the roundabout at the ballot box this year.
