It looks like the Vineyard will remain a two-bookstore Island.

David LeBreton, the owner of Edgartown Books, said this week that he has a potential buyer for his bookstore, with the interested party planning to keep the bookstore operation in place.

The new owner would take ownership of the Main street building and the book business, which Mr. LeBreton has operated with his wife, Ann, for the last decade.

The agreement is not final, Mr. LeBreton said, adding that he hopes to close the deal by Memorial Day. He did not identify the potential owner, who he said is an Edgartown summer resident.

“Everything’s going swimmingly,” he said.

He added that he turned away other retailers, because “the town needs a bookstore.”
