Cinco de Mayo Party

A new wash-ashore is headed to the Vineyard this weekend and its name is El Tiburon. No, this is not some Spanish speaking shark looking for a little leg. It’s a new brand of tequila.

Sharky’s Cantina, celebrating all things Mexican for many years, is launching their own house brand of tequila this Saturday to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. According to owner JB Blau, Sharky’s has been the state’s number two seller of certain tequila brands, trailing just behind Gillette Stadium. Hard fact or agave-fueled hyperbole? Who cares, as long as the tequila delivers.

Alas, at press time the tequila had not made it across the Sound, so tastings will have to wait.

Mr. Blau did say, though, that El Tiburon will be released as a mixto tequila, with approximately 80 per cent organic Blue Agave. He plans to follow up this initial launch with a 100 per cent Agave Blanco, and reposado and anejo tequilas.

For the Cinco de May celebration, Sharky’s is offering free food from 6 to 9 p.m. at both locations. At 9:30 p.m. Rick Bausman’s Beetlebung Steel Band hits the stage in Edgartown. The taco eating contest begins at 10:30 p.m.
