John and Anna Alley are traveling in England for a couple of weeks seeking out and visiting with Anna’s English relatives. You may remember that they went to St. Michael island in the Azores a few years ago to seek out some of John’s ancestry, but no one would come forward and admit to being related to him. They had a fine trip anyway and brought back many fine photos. We wish them a safe return.
Meanwhile, life goes on here on the Vineyard. Spring is the most beautiful time of the year, the fresh bright green of the new leaves against a backdrop of the colorful blossoms of the flowering life after the browns and grays of winter. The only drawback, of course, is that we are too busy trying to catch up to the promises we made last fall. Cottle’s and Hinckley’s are suddenly crowded and people we haven’t seen in months are everywhere. Spring is here!
From the archives: On May 2, 1945, Mary Kidder and Phyllis Alley, both seniors at Tisbury High School, returned home from a trip to Boston. Several other members of their class also made the trip with them. They reported visiting museums, the library, Hillbilly Ranch and they all went to the circus held in the Boston Garden.
