Two Vineyard teams clinched an Eastern Athletic Conference title this week, with the boys’ tennis team picking up their third consecutive championship and girls’ lacrosse taking home their second.

Both teams are undefeated in the conference, and have won the league title each year they have been in the EAC.

The girls, who are 7-6 overall, took an 18-13 win over Bishop Stang on Tuesday to secure the championship. Junior Alayna Hutchinson turned in five goals and four assists, while junior Jennie Lindland had three goals and four assists. Sophomore Issy Smith had her best game of the season, notching five goals, and junior Taylor Poggi scored four times. Senior captain Madison Hughes was dominant on the center draw while also landing a goal and three assists. Goalie April Hargy had eight saves.

On the tennis courts, the team picked up its thirteenth win of the season against Coyle and Cassidy to retain a perfect season record. Junior co-captain Kent Leonard took the number one singles match 6-2, 6-7, 7-6. Sophomore Patrick McCarthy pushed his match to three sets as well, but fell 1-6, 7-5, 6-3. In the number three singles spot, junior co-captain Justice Yennie went 6-7, 6-4, 6-1 for the win.

Doubles players Natty Schneider and Jackson McBride picked up a 7-5, 6-1 win, and Justin Smith and Ryan Sawyer went 7-6, 5-7, 6-4 to secure the Vineyard win.
