Please Adopt Us

The sweet little mystery stray that came to the Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard last week is a stray no longer. His owner never claimed him but another person fell in love with him on the spot and he now has a great new home.

We now have three dogs available for adoption. The two little Chihuahuas have calmed down a lot and are waiting patiently for someone to come and take them home; their names are Chauncy, a brown and white female, and Oscar, an all-brown male. The other dog who just came to us is a two-year-old yellow lab-husky cross named Ziggy. He is really worth a visit to the shelter to see him — he is sweet-natured, neutered, good with kids and he even does tricks! Who could resist this combination?

Our one new cat is Mango, an orange female. She joins Barley, a tortoiseshell and white female; Butter and Chloe , two very sweet tortoiseshell females; Ceilia, the shelter mascot; Deacon, a lovely orange tiger; and Panchie, a gray and white male kitty who is quite lonesome and needs to find a home soon.

Shelter hours are Wednesdays 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The shelter is closed Sunday through Tuesday. The telephone number is 508-627-8662.

Volunteers are needed and contributions are always gratefully accepted; we are funded solely by donations. The Susie Fund was established to pay the medical expenses of animals at the shelter who need medical care. Please make checks out to The Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard; the mailing address is P.O. Box 1829, Edgartown MA 02539.

We also have a wish list of building supplies that are available at the Edgartown Hardware Store. Any item purchased will be delivered to the shelter by the store and is tax deductible (as are all donations to the shelter).
